Our Breeding Program

After 7 long years of trying to obtain a Bitch from the UK kennels we were very lucky to have Suzanna arrive in July. We are very pleased to be able to give her a new life in semi-retirement from showing and suburbia which she has had over the past 3 years. We are looking forward to her first litter in the future.

Both Ruby and Cliff are from top Champion Welsh Terrier Bloodlines world wide, Europe , UK, Australia and USA , as you can see throughout their individual pedigrees. It has take 7 years of searching to find these two dogs that are not too closely related. Well-bred Welsh terriers are very hard to find. There are only a few Welsh Terriers in NZ.
You would be lucky to find 20. Most of these are closely related. Australia only has a handful of breeders and most NZ dogs stem back from these breeders, who were forward thinking enough to import new bloodlines from Europe, at great expense I might add.

Suzanna, Ruby and Cliff are true to the breed type. Fun loving, affectionate, loyal, and little hunters. All three are great looking dogs. We have ventured to one show in the Waikato and Suzanna won Best intermediate terrier with a USA judge. So we were very pleased with her.

Personalities

Suzanna is very much a Madame and knows she is beautiful. (Hence her name. Her sister was Trinny who stayed in the UK). It has taken a little time for her to realize she can run free when going for a walk down the farm. She has settled in well by taking over our house and has woven her way into our hearts. A very loyal and loving personality, but a bit of a trickster as well.

Ruby’s nature and character is so endearing she is a dog that loves cuddles and attention, just melts in your lap, yet is a real terrier. She is not frightened by much, loves machinery and has to be on the farm tractor or the hay trailer, loves riding on the motor bike, or any type of transport. She would make a great boat dog as she loves the water and goes kayaking with our son.

Cliff is a typical male, loves himself and so he should because he is a very fine example of a Welsh terrier stud male, very handsome.   He struts round the place as if to say look at me. He moves beautifully and is very well proportioned. Cliff enjoys cuddles, being the centre of attention, he is very easy to train and loves helping round up cattle on the farm. Cliff would make a fantastic agility dog or tracking dog.

Cliff & Ruby should be show dogs, but we are farmers and we don’t have the time to travel nation wide seeking ribbons. There are only less than 5 being show nationwide.

Welsh Terriers are such versatile dogs - you are sure to enjoy them

If you are an Airedale lover and are looking for a smaller breed the Welsh Terrier is the ideal. Because they are not well known in NZ, people often stop and say “is that an Airedale puppy?” To which we quickly inform them otherwise.
